Are You Game Enough?!?!
We have completed two weeks of Spring Fever 2012… Week One we
had our Amazing Race where our boys team (The Golden Boys) and our
girls team, (Angels) battled clue to clue to try and finish the race
and to solve the final mystery. It was a tight race to the end but
the Angels won by thirty seconds!! Matt talked about the endurance
it takes to run the race as a Christian here on earth. Matthew 22:
37-39 “Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with
all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This
is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love
your neighbor as yourself.”
The teams battled out numerous fear factor challenges during week two… It
was a close call but the Golden Boys showed their awesome fearlessness
during the final round by transporting sardines in their mouth from
one bowl to another! MVP’s of this game go to Emily Twisselman
and Tommy Henderson. Way to go guys! Fear was not a factor for you!
Later we talked about getting over different fears in our lives in
order for our faith to be strengthened. James 1:2-8 “My brothers
and sisters, consider it nothing but joy when you fall into all sorts
of trials, because you know that the testing of your faith produces
endurance. And let endurance have its perfect effect, so that you will
be perfect and complete, not deficient in anything.”
The score now stands:
The Golden Boys: 294,300
Angels: 344,600
Let’s see if the Angels can keep it up! Check out the Family
Room Facebook page for pictures and videos of these awesome kids!
Movie Night
These kids are seriously AWESOME! Look it up in the dictionary and
you will find their picture. This past month has gone by so fast!
There is so much going on in the life of a middle schooler… Believe
it or not it is true! We have had transitioning of sports, Spring
Breaks, school projects, plays, you name it, these kids are probably
involved! So I decided for the week we had a break from Half Time
to have a nice fun movie night here at Sanctuary. I set up the room
like a theater, brought my popcorn maker, Mrs. Crowley brought some
snacks and the kids got to kick it and watch Nacho Libre. It was
nice just to get in some good fellowship with the kids.

I love ministering to high school students. I love mentoring and
listening, teaching and planning events for them. I love visiting
them at school and
praying with them on Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings.
There is something, however that I enjoy much more than ministering to
students and that is ministering along side them or launching them into
ministry opportunities
of their own!
Lately my little youth pastor heart has swollen with pride as I have
seen several of our students move past the ministered to and to
become ministers
themselves.
There was Ryan Swanson and his participation in the Trinity HS mission
trip to Prague in the Czech Republic. There is Brent Smith and Emily Long
who
have stepped up and been key parts of the leadership team for the Christian
club
on their campus. There is Emma Hewett willing to share her gift of singing
and leading worship on Wednesday nights. There is Ryan Swedberg (along
with others) who has stepped up to key leadership positions for the upcoming
VBS
here at SBCCV.
There is the way that the entire group took seriously the call to support
a foster child in the Ukraine. During our Christmas and 30 Hour Famine
fund raising
events the students raised over $1,200 dollars to support 2 orphans in
the Ukraine with about $400 left over. We as a group are deciding where
God might
lead us to give that $400 in a way that glorifies Him.
Then, of course, there is the great response to the service trip we are
taking to Mexico in just a few days. Most of our group is signed up to
give up a
week of their time to bless Pastor Francisco and the people he loves.
I like playing dodge ball and I like Bible studies and I like singing fun
worship songs that give us the chance to jump around. But by far the thing
I love most
about this group is their willingness to not just be served but to serve.
