Cachagua Church
November 9, 2017
What an amazing God we serve! He is the One who accomplishes great feats - and yet - sometimes He uses you and me to be His hands and feet. In the case of Cachagua Bible Church - each of you who prayed were used by the Holy Spirit to encourage and give wisdom to those serving out here. Each of you have become an "eyewitness" to God's faithfulness.
Perhaps thirty years ago or so - women were praying that God would visit Cachagua in a powerful way - that He would establish a church that would proclaim the Good News about Jesus Christ in our community. God has heard those prayers and answered with a resounding YES!
In 2007 Sally approached Pastor Dave and asked if Sanctuary could help in bringing a worship service to Cachagua. Pastor Ben gathered a group of locals in Cachagua Community Park and the General Store for a time of worship - study in the Scriptures - fellowship and opportunities to serve the community. In 2010 Ben goes to Cypress Community Church and I transition out to Cachagua. Lynn Altenberg convinced her brother to donate his 26' trailer to Sanctuary for me to live in - before we even knew I would live in Cachagua.
At this point a remnant of believers is meeting every Sunday at 11am and we begin to pray for a permanent church home out here.
Susan Canepa Saunders from Tassajara comes to church in the park - her cancer has come back and she decides she needs to go to church. Susan comes to a personal faith in Jesus Christ - is the first person I baptize in Carmel River and we learn that her Grandfather was the man who started a home Bible Study in Monterey many years before - with Italian believers - that would become First Baptist Church of Carmel Valley in 1965. On November 16, 2014 Susan went home to meet Jesus face to face!
By the end of July 2014 we were able to purchase the property God had already chosen for His church - 19345 Cachagua Road.
Conditional Use Permit process starts and the need for a draftsman/architect is realized and Josh Stewman volunteers for the task. The start of a three year "adventure" begins. Countless petitions to God in prayer - filling out forms - studies done on water percolation - fluoride - septic - noise - traffic and biology (which Pat Regan tackled for us!).
Rudolf Schroeter assists with his knowledge of the law and Richard LeWarne comes out of retirement from the County Health to walk us through a very challenging time - if it were not for Richard’s expertise and willingness to help - I don't think we would have been able to "navigate those waters."
All of you who prayed - came out to clean the park - sing Christmas carols or build the deck for the trailer - have all contributed to God establishing His church in Cachagua.
Throughout this adventure - Pastor Dave has made himself available to pray with me - to partner with and mentor me. There were times when I was discouraged and wondered if God really wanted us to stay out here because the battle was so difficult.
John Hammond has been my partner and friend out here - working to bring unity even with those opposing the church - what a God-send.
Why do I mention all of this? Because it illustrates so vividly how the body of Christ can work together and accomplish things that we could never have dreamed!
God called - and believers responded. Some with prayer - some with gifts and others with their time. You and I are "eyewitnesses" and "partners" in the amazing miracle God has performed in Cachagua.
The Board of Supervisors voted 4-1 in favor of giving the church our use permit - which is a BIG cause for praise!.
The purpose for coming out here to Cachagua in 2008 was to serve God and this community. He has given us opportunities galore to serve - and we have - with a very grateful heart! We look forward to the future and all the ways we will be able to bring HOPE to our community - through faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ!
We PRAISE GOD for what He has done - and THANKFUL for the ways He has used you - the Body of Christ - to accomplish His plan!
Even those who have opposed the church will be warmly welcomed here!
"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time WE WILL REAP A HARVEST if we do not give up." Galatians 6:9
Blessings --- Pastor Orville
