If you have been with this Sanctuary family any time at all, then you’ve learned that we have a good and growing heart for global missions. We believe that God wants us personally to be engaged in living and sharing the gospel locally and he wants us missionally engaged with a broader world as well. Because of this commitment we have an in-house Missions Team that meets monthly to stay current with our current global missionaries, communicating with them, praying for them, and reassessing our relationship with them on a triennial basis. We love our missions’ family and want them to know that we are standing with them.
Because of your support this year we have also been able to take on two new missionaries, and we want you to meet them. Missions’ Team member, Kim Williams has provided us with a brief introduction here so that you can begin to get to know them.
John Stark recently visited the Peninsula for just a day, and a few from our SBC family were privileged to meet him and hear about his work. He and his wife Janie are 35-year veterans with Wycliffe. Their sending church is Twin Lakes Baptist in Aptos where John was ordained. John and Janie led the simultaneous translations of three related languages in Salka, central Nigeria. When their work there was turned over to the nationals, John worked as a coordinator and support person for other Wycliffe translators. Recently John was recruited to use his experience and training with Spoken Worldwide. (www.spoken.org), which works with people groups who’s main learning mode is oral. Janie has a severe chronic fatigue condition, thus is medically retired. They reside in Missouri.
John and the Spoken team work alongside existing churches and/or other mission organizations in 45 locales, currently within 11 countries to spread God's word through oral storytelling of the Bible and are working on producing oral translations. Since much of the world does not read, spreading the gospel orally has the potential for amazing growth in God's family!
Kujtim Haxhia is a young man who is a quiet and thoughtful leader with Cru (formerly Campus Crusade for Christ) in Albania. Our short term missions teams to Albania have met him and can't say enough good things about him. He works closely with the Cru efforts to reach students in Shkoder. He is an effective friend and guide to those both seeking answers about faith, as well as discipling new believers. He ran the English camps in Shkoder as well served as interim pastor of the church while Gusti and Visa Bushgjokaj (also SBC supported missionaries) were in the US.
Kujtim has been trained for the next level of leadership, and he will be serving in another town in Albania with other teams soon. We are excited to continue our partnership with the Cru ministries in Albania by supporting Kujtim.
Current members of our Missions Team are Pastor Dave Hong, Jack and Bev Irvine, Rudolf Schroeter, Don and Colly Tettelbach, Kim and Christine Williams, and Martin Woodward
